The Convenience of AI Headshots, But What About the Heart?

AI is everywhere now, even in photography. With a few clicks, you can upload selfies and get AI-generated headshots in minutes. They're fast, affordable, and honestly, some of them look pretty good... at first glance.
I recently saw one that made me pause. It looked polished, but something felt off; the background was a little too perfect, the skin texture a little too smooth. It reminded me why I still believe so deeply in the power of human-led photography.
Sure, AI has its perks:
No need to book a session,
Budget-friendly,
Some customization options.
I get the appeal, especially for job seekers or those in need of a quick online profile photo.
But headshots aren’t just about looking put together; they’re about being seen.
When someone steps in front of my lens, I’m not just taking a photo — I’m capturing their energy, their story, their truth. I guide, I listen, I adapt in real time. It’s personal, it’s intuitive, and yes, sometimes it’s even healing.

Every person is different. Their light, their laugh, their stillness; all of it matters. And that can’t be generated by an algorithm.
AI struggles with nuance. It may smooth out skin or change backgrounds, but it can’t adjust when a client feels nervous. It doesn’t know how to coax out that genuine smile or notice when someone needs a little encouragement to shine.
What I offer isn't just a headshot; it’s an experience, one rooted in trust, creativity, and care.
That said, I’m not anti-AI. I use it in small ways to support my workflow. Technology can assist, but it doesn’t replace connection. And in a world that's becoming more digital by the day, that connection feels more important than ever.
So if you're looking for something quick and functional, AI might do the trick. But if you want images that feel like you — honest, empowered, and deeply human; nothing beats the real thing.
